George Griffith's 1900 classic introduces us to the gentle Bird-Folk of Venus, the horrifying monsters of Jupiter and the aerial battleships of evil Martian warlords. However, the real importance of this 1901 book is its example of science or scientists using an invention to demonstrate to politicians how to end war and keep peace. Redgrave's space yacht Astronef, worked on the R-force principle - it converted gravity into positive and negative, up (or down). A demonstration by the Astronef on earth frightened nations on the verge of war into keeping the peace; after which, the Redgrave's left for Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Callisto, and Saturn. There we learn more about the importance of scientific thought vs. emotional decisions that are as self-destructive off earth, as on it.
